In that time, I have counselled in a variety of settings including a GP surgery, on the streets with the homeless, a private clinic, a sexual health centre, a drug and alcohol recovery service, various education setting including a high-ranking university.
The most important aspect of counselling is that you feel heard and understood in a non-judgemental, confidential relationship. From this starting point we can explore your concerns, understand why these feelings/problems might be manifesting in your life right now (perhaps it’s a repeat of something from the past) and discover personal, bespoke ways of feeling better, more in control and able to cope with life/circumstances.
From here we can then discuss techniques and strategies to help you stabilise the anxiety and better cope in the situation. Sometimes this is enough; however, if you want to understand more about the origin of your anxiety, we can explore your past – perhaps you were given adult responsibilities too young or maybe your caregivers were unreliable, inconsistent, or untrustworthy.
Once this has been acknowledged we can find strategies to you support yourself in the ‘here and now’ which reduces the anxiety. The other component with anxiety is that is often driven by negative self-talk, negative thoughts, or thoughts/feelings that things are out of control and that you are unable to cope. We’ll challenge these thoughts and replace them with self-affirming thoughts that help you feel calm, able, and confident.
Although it’s important to stress that my approach will be bespoke to you and your unique circumstances. I am qualified and experienced as an online counsellor and can offer counselling/psychotherapy via video, audio, instant messaging, and email. To explore whether counselling by instant messaging or email is suitable for you please send me a message – you’ll see a contact form on this website.
Please contact me if you have any questions, or would like to arrange an appointment. This enables us to discuss the reasons you are thinking of having counselling or supervision, whether it could be helpful for you and whether I am the right therapist to help. You can also call me on 07876200559.
